This years Southend half marathon took place on 9th of June and it was a very poinent year for many as it marked the 5th anniversay of the passing of Nick Palmer.
With over 1,700 runners out on a very hot and sunny course a massive thank you needs to be given to volunteers from local groups including Flyers Southend, Shoebury Army Cadets who helped marshal the route, man water stations and handing out medals. Thorpe Bay Marine, Roslin Hotel and Shorehouse Pub for hosting water stations.
And of course the thousands of people who came out and lined the course to support loved ones and strangers alike.
Before the race friends, family and members of Flyers Southend gathered together for a minutes clap in memory of Nick followed by the now annual group photo taken by Andy Kenyon.
Two FLF committee members Nicki Benham and Anne Purdham had arranged to offer orange ribbons for donation and raised £170 and a member of Flyers Southend, Giles Pettitt raised a further £380 for the charity by holding a sponsored head shave with the individual donating the most getting to make the initial cut.
We look forward to seeing you all there again in 2020!
